Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students a basic knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of GREEK HISTORY, with the help of advanced textbooks. Moreover, it will make the student able to apply the acquired knowledge in an expert and reflective way, making autonomous judgments, communicating ideas, problems and reflections in a clear and correct way, and developing the knowledge required to transmit it to the students of the primary school.

Program - Frequency - Exams

Course program
The main stages of Greek history will be followed with a focus on the institutional, social, economic and cultural developments of the various forms of aggregation and communities attested in the Greek world, from the second millennium BCE to the Hellenistic Age.
Prerequisites
Same prerequisites as for access to the Course.
Books
1) Two books from Herodotus' Histories. A learning unit will be developed on one of them for one of the last classes of elementary school. 2) V. Saldutti, A. Visconti, Storia antica. Vicino Oriente, Grecia, Roma, Napoli, Tiotinx edizioni, 2020, pp. 13-186.
Teaching mode
Lessons or on line lessons, depending on the sanitary situation.
Frequency
Attendance at classes is recommended.
Exam mode
In the last lessons of the course students will present one of Herodotus' books of their choice in the form of a Learning Unit. The final examination will consist of a question on three topics, respectively Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic Greek History.
