Course program
Modern and Contemporary History This course is an integrated module and provides 4 CFU in modern history and 4 CFU in contemporary history. It aims to offer a reasoned course on events and issues that marked the modern and contemporary ages. It is articulated through lectures in dialogue on the cornerstones of historical knowledge, in a long-term perspective and in constant comparison between the approaches of modern history and those of contemporary history. For both parts, it includes methodological reflections on periodizations, spaces, source criticism and the complex relationship between history and memory. In each class, an introduction to the methods and problems of the historical disciplines will be an integral part of our work. Classroom discussion of a small lexicon of common key words will bring the categories and themes of modern history into dialogue with those of contemporary history. Particular attention will be paid to the fundamental junctures in the history of Italy from the mid-fifteenth century to the present day, always traced within the framework of European and world events.
