Course objectives

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT MUST HAVE A BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON DRUGS AND THOSE OF WIDE USE, FOCUSING ON THE ACTION MECHANISMS AND THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THEM. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT SHOULD KNOW HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE TYPES OF PHARMACOLOGICAL THERAPIES TO WHICH THE PATIENTS ARE SUBJECTED BECAUSE AFFECTED BY PARTICULAR PATHOLOGIES.

Course program
The module provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts of pharmacokinetics and the main pharmacological interactions relevant in therapy. It covers the major groups of drugs used in dentistry and in the management of medical emergencies: anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, antidiabetic agents, medications for asthma and COPD, gastroprotective drugs, traditional and new-generation antitumor agents, antihypertensives and drugs for heart failure, drugs for the treatment of shock, antibacterials, lipid-lowering agents, antiseptics, and disinfectants. The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the clinical and pharmacological implications in the management of patients in a dental setting.
