Course program
The Digital modeling module includes a cycle of lessons focused on the digital representation of form, starting from the study of the main geometric locus in plane and in space (conical curves, polycentric curves, 2D and 3D transcendent curves) up to the interpretation and control of free form entities.
The introductory theoretical part will be followed, for each topic, by exercises which will have as their theme the construction of the digital model of some design objects proposed by the teacher. At the same time, each student, individually or in groups of up to 3 people, will choose a design object proposed by him for which he will carry out an interpretative study of the geometric genesis of the project, creating the digital model, appropriately represented through the conscious use of methods and digital techniques for a conscious communication of the project.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of elementary geometric forms, in plane and space, and of the main relationships between entities. Mastery of the tools and methods of analog graphic design. Fundamentals of two-dimensional digital drawing.
Books
The main reference texts are: Geometria descrittiva, edited by Prof. Riccardo Migliari, published by CittàStudi Edizioni, Rome 2009 (reference will mainly be made to the second volume, except for a few topics dealt with in the first); De.form.are, Prof. Graziano Mario Valenti, published by Designpress, Rome 2010.
At the end of each lesson, the parts of the book that will be of greatest interest in relation to the topics covered will be indicated.
From time to time, a specific in-depth bibliography may also be indicated.
Frequency
Attendance is not compulsory, but participation is strongly recommended
Exam mode
The exam consists of an oral test of about 15 minutes in which we will verify the knowledge acquired in relation to the topics covered in class. Fundamental materials on which the exam focuses are the notebook developed during the course, in class, and the documents relating to the representation of the architectural project. If necessary, the teacher will propose the realization ex tempore of digital elaborations that give proof of the acquired knowledge.
