Organization and Responsibilities of the CdS Quality Assurance

The Degree Program has established:

  • four working groups (Teaching, Guidance, Tutoring, and Internationalization);
  • a Teaching Observatory (composed of the CdS President, the Teaching Working Group coordinator, the administrative referent for teaching, and a student representative);
  • an Advisory Committee;
  • a Quality Committee, composed of Professors Carola Clemente, Biagio Carboni, and Leone Spita, student Gaia Morgera, administrative officer Dr. Elisa Amodio, coordinated by the President of the Degree Program, Prof. Flaminia Bardati, assisted by the CdS Quality Manager, Prof. Leonardo Baglioni.

The Quality Committee, also through interaction with the aforementioned working groups and the Teaching Observatory, oversees all activities necessary to achieve the expected Quality objectives and thus to manage Quality Assurance.
The Committee periodically defines quality objectives for the success of the educational processes managed by the Degree Program, also guiding the processes of planning, monitoring, and controlling the results obtained, with the support of the Advisory Committee.
The Quality Committee supports the President of the Degree Program and the Quality Manager in self-assessment and Quality Assurance activities, in drafting the Annual Monitoring Report, in preparing the requirements for the Cyclical Review, in the periodic evaluation of OPIS surveys, and in the preparation of the DARS-OPIS.
The Degree Program, through the QA management group and in collaboration with the Teaching, Guidance, Tutoring and Internationalization working groups, the Teaching Observatory, and the Advisory Committee, holds periodic meetings to monitor corrective actions indicated in previous Review Reports and Monitoring Sheets.
It evaluates the outcomes of their adoption, highlighting strengths, any critical issues, and necessary changes; it verifies the adequacy and effectiveness of the management of the Degree Program; it proposes, where necessary, corrective actions to be included in the next Review Report.
The schedule of regular meetings is set based on the completion of University obligations; additional meetings are held according to specific needs reported by the working groups, the Teaching Observatory, colleagues, or student representatives.

Consultation with representative organizations

Initial consultations with stakeholders

For the establishment of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Class L-17, in January 2008 the Faculty initiated consultations, agreements, and other forms of collaboration with:

  • the Order of Architects of Rome;
  • the Municipality of Rome;
  • the Superintendencies for Archaeological Heritage of Rome, Ostia Antica, Pompeii and others;
  • ACER – Roman Builders Association.

These consultations and initial forms of agreement made it possible to establish an effective collaboration in identifying the knowledge, skills, and professional profiles characterizing the educational project of the Degree Program, in order to place graduates in a productive sector focused on design and construction, including the field of redevelopment and restoration of building and urban heritage.
This latter area accounts for over 74% of the entire building sector in Europe, with growing related industries, including the adaptation of the technical apparatus of the Public Administration.
In the final consultation meeting at University level on 19/01/2009, considering the results of the preceding online consultation, the participating organizations positively assessed the rationalization of Sapienza’s Educational Offer, aimed not only at reducing the number of courses but also at diversifying them into classes with higher attractiveness and adequate teaching coverage.
After a detailed assessment of the Faculties’ Educational Offer, the organizations expressed a favorable opinion on the establishment of the individual courses.

Consultation with representative organizations (subsequent consultations)

Subsequent consultations with stakeholders
The consultations, agreements, and collaborations initiated with:

  • the Order of Architects of Rome (OAR);
  • the Municipality of Rome;
  • the MiBAC;
  • the Superintendencies for Archaeological Heritage of Rome, Ostia Antica, Pompeii, and others;
  • ACER – Roman Builders Association;

have been reiterated over the years to ensure constant updating of the educational offer in line with the evolution of the professional context.
Following the establishment of the Degree Program, the Faculty organized several consultation sessions with organizations representing the production of goods and services, and professions related to architecture and construction.

  • In the session of 17 March 2016, the CdS bodies engaged with representatives of OAR, ACER, and MiBAC to discuss the prospects of the architect’s profession, particularly in the field of conservation and management of the built environment, in order to define the educational profile of the Junior Architect.
  • Subsequent meetings were held on 16 May 2017 (seminar “New skills. New opportunities” organized by the Dean’s Office) and 11 September 2017, with a presentation of the Degree Program (educational objectives, career opportunities, courses, internationalization, internship and guidance activities, as well as data on enrolments, career regularity, geographical and school origins) in the presence of representatives of:OICE, MIBACT, ENEA, State Property Agency, ACER, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, CNAPP.

The Degree Program also coordinates at least twice a year with the councillors of the Order of Architects of Rome and Province, in particular with the Junior Councillor, also involved in orientation and communication activities, to verify the relevance of the educational contents.
On 23 May 2024, the CdL Council approved the establishment of an Advisory Committee composed of:

  • a representative of the Ministry of Culture (National Museum System Unit);
  • a representative of the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage – Directorate of Monumental Building Interventions;
  • a councillor of the Order of Architects of Rome and Province;
  • the Junior Councillor of the Order of Architects of Rome and Province;
  • a PhD student in History, Drawing and Restoration of Architecture at Sapienza University of Rome, former CdS student.

The Advisory Committee members were consulted directly by the CdS President in meetings held between 28 May and 5 June 2024.
All external stakeholders were provided with background material on the current curriculum (2019), educational objectives (Dublin descriptors), critical issues from SMA 2022 and 2023, the Cyclical Review Report, and the opinions of the PhD student.
The assessment of the educational project emerging from these consultations was positive; strengths and weaknesses were highlighted, with suggested actions to be undertaken. Some regulatory changes for the academic year 2025-26 were proposed and positively evaluated.
The meeting minutes are available at the link:
