At the end of the course, students should have knowledge of the cell from a morphological and functional point of view, cytology approaches at both the microscopic and molecular levels, and their applications in medicine.

Methods and tools for studying cells, tissues, and organs. Light and electron microscopy. Preparation of tissue for light and electron microscopy. Principal methods for staining tissues for light and electron microscopy. Histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques. Cell culture.
Cytology: structural and functional organization of the eukaryotic cell. Plasma membrane. Cytoplasmic organelles. Rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
