Course program
Tissue homeostasis: general concepts. Control mechanisms of cell proliferation. Stem cells: biological properties, plasticity and role in tissue regeneration and repair. Regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, with particular reference to skeletal tissue: principles, applications and limits.
Prerequisites
In order to understand properly the teaching content and to achieve the expected learning objectives, at the beginning of the teaching activities the student must possess the basic knowledge acquired and matured during the frequency of previous courses in the field of cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, embryology, anatomy, histology, general pathology and pathological anatomy. Frequency
The frequency is checked by the teacher through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course (at least 75% of the scheduled hours) is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.
Exam mode
The assessment consists of an oral exam based on the critical analysis of a scientific article selected by the student relevant to the course program and takes into account: a) ability to critically discuss methods and results of the selected scientific article; b) knowledge of the topics covered by the questions; c) adequacy of the answer to each of the questions in relation to the skills that are assumed to have been acquired at the end of the course; d) logic followed to answer the questions; e) use of an appropriate language.
Bibliography
Scientific articles related to topics included in the program will be recommended as a study tool for integrative purposes to frontal lessons and adopted texts.
Lesson mode
The teaching is based essentially on frontal lessons characterized by a strong interactive component between the teacher and the students. Other teaching methods may include group or individual works focused on the analysis of methods and results of publications in international scientific journals.
