THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELING

Course objectives

The training objective is to give students the necessary tools to understand the possibilities of acute and subacute liver failure therapy based on the construction of engineered liver tissue. Acquisition of know how on the mechanisms that regulate the proliferation and cell differentiation, with particular regard to the study of multipotent adult stem cells of epithelial origin. Definition of “identity” and biological “potency” for cell therapies aimed to repair damaged tissues and methods to obtain the results. Contribution of translational research, conveyed with technology transfer from innovative fields such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, to transfer in to the clinic. Use of new functionalized scaffolds through the insertion of other cell types (eg. fibroblasts, endothelial cells) or growth factors, for the in vitro production of "organoids" tissues. Addressing the skills of clinical application of the cell based therapies to obtain in vitro epithelial layer and mucous to be transfer in to patients with rare diseases with a strong social impact.
