• Principles of preventive, interceptive, corrective therapy (8 hours):
o Myotherapy
o Orthopedic therapy
o Functional orthopedic therapy
o Fixed orthodontic therapy.
• Diagnostic framework and therapeutic outlines relating to sagittal problems, first, second and third class (6 hours)
• Diagnostic framework and therapeutic outline related to transversal problems (6 hours)
• Diagnostic framework and therapeutic outlines related to vertical problems (6 hours)
• Recidivism and restraint (2 hours)
• Diagnosis and treatment of orthodontic dental anomalies (8 hours)
• Evaluation of further diagnostic radiographic auxiliary tests (6 hours)
• Evaluation and prediction of the growth of the stomatognathic apparatus (6 hours)
1 teaching credits CFU - 20 hours
• analysis of the occlusion and its relationships with the other stomatognathic components
• interpretation of the orthopantomographic investigation in the clinical-diagnostic context
• interpretation of the latero-lateral cephalometric trace in the clinical-diagnostic context
• diagnosis of the main forms of malocclusions
• the intra and interdisciplinary treatment plan
• to correlate the various clinical and radiographic investigations that contribute to orthodontic diagnosis
• distinguish the main forms of malocclusions
• set up an intra and interdisciplinary treatment plan
Prerequisites
In order to understand the contents of the course and achieve the intended learning objectives, the student must have knowledge of the anatomy, histology and physiology of the stomatognathic apparatus and of the dentition, as well as the pathology of the oral cavity. The student must also have knowledge of the basics of general radiology and odontostomatology, as well as the psychology of the patient in developmental age.
The cultural prerequisites and the procedures for moving to the years following the first one, declined in the regulations of the Study Program, allow to guarantee the fulfillment of these prerequisites. The prerequisites are common to the four modules, in which the teaching is articulated over the two years.
Taking into account that the course requires attendance, the student must have achieved a number of presences in the educational didactic activities foreseen in the fourth year (I and II module / semester), congruous with what is stated in the CdS regulation, in order to access in the fifth year, in which the third and fourth modules are provided.

Teaching mode
The teaching provided in the module includes lectures, with traditional methods, with the help of audiovisuals. During the lessons, in the classroom, the active participation of students is stimulated, through group work, case analysis, preparation of papers and / or research.
The educational and practical professional activities are carried out, as a clinical training on a patient, at the orthodontics clinic.
These activities are carried out according to a specific training course, which includes the acquisition of specific skills, in parallel with the relative knowledge, with a training process articulated over the two-year period, in which the teaching is structured.
The overall organization of the lessons is previously scheduled as reported in the GOMP Classroom System / Timetable and published on the CdS website.
Exam mode
A written test is in progress during the course of the lectures of the third module / semester, aimed at verifying the acquired knowledge, as well as the preliminary learning of even more complex arguments, treated during the lessons.
The student will be assessed on the basis of attendance at lectures, participation in educational activities and professional training, regarding competence, interest and aptitude for individual and group work.
