Course objectives
The course aims to develop the student's critical sense in the study of some of the most current topics of inheritance law, in a functional, systematic and axiological perspective.

Course program
The course addresses some of the most debated issues in succession law, particularly focusing on the content of wills and the revocation of testamentary provisions, the invalidity of testamentary acts, disinheritance, succession and acquisition of inheritance, reduction of donations and indirect liberalities, succession agreements, collation, and the reserved portion for the surviving spouse, all within the framework of a functional, systematic, and axiological perspective.
Prerequisites
The passing of the exam of “Istituzioni di diritto privato” is a prerequisite. Knowledge of the complexity, dynamism, and unity of the legal system is essential, including familiarity with constitutional, European, and international legality; legal hermeneutics and its canons; and the standard of reasonableness in the interpretation and application of civil law institutions.

Additionally recommended: a) Consultation of a Private Italian Law Manual. In particular, P. PERLINGIERI, Manuale di diritto civile, Edizioni Scientifiche Italiane, 2024, limited to the section on Succession due to death. b) Attendance at lectures and exercises, during which additional teaching materials will be distributed and made available on a dedicated Classroom page. Further readings may be suggested during the lectures.

Exam mode
Examinations are conducted orally, with grades ranging from 18/30 (pass) to 30/30 (highest grade, with honors possible for exceptional cases) for a positive outcome. To pass with the minimum grade, the student must demonstrate a sufficient understanding of the topics covered and the ability to present them with proper language and necessary connections. To achieve the highest grade, the student must show an excellent grasp of all the topics, with the ability to integrate them logically and coherently, without neglecting the close connection between techniques and ideologies. Interim assessments may be planned. If such an assessment is scheduled, adequate notice will be given, and it will be conducted in written form with open-ended questions.
Lesson mode
The teaching will be conducted through lectures, formulation of questions, and issues. Attendance is optional but strongly recommended. Supplementary teaching under the direction of the course instructor is also planned, including practical case exercises with direct student involvement. Office hours will be scheduled to provide clarifications on the subject and promote the development of argumentative skills.
