Course program
– The course provides students with knowledge and understanding of certain methodological, theoretical, and applied aspects of anthropological disciplines; it offers thematic and regional perspectives that encourage research areas and fields of knowledge in dialogue with the potential of a diachronic approach.
– It develops the student’s independent ability to relate what has been learned to other disciplinary fields, with particular reference to history, cultural heritage, religions, philology, and the history of the ancient world, etc. (descriptor 2).
– It enables students to use the acquired knowledge and the specific terminology learned for so-called “transversal skills,” encouraging theoretical insights into the interpretations, reproductions, and negotiations of anthropological observation within regional contexts of the ancient and contemporary Mediterranean (independent judgment, communication skills, descriptors 3–5).
Prerequisites
No specific prerequisites are required. The general knowledge of the "identity-otherness" relationship provided by the Secondary School is considered a useful prerequisite. Given the transversal character of cultural anthropology, the knowledge of contemporary history, with particular reference to the history of Europe in the colonial season, are implicit and desirable prerequisites.
Books
At the beginning of the course, a list of texts will be presented, and the choice will be agreed upon with the attending students based on previous readings.
Non-attending students are advised to contact the teacher by email so that the program can be tailored to their specific academic background.
Exam mode
Evaluation takes place with an oral examination; the quality and completeness of learning, the autonomy of judgment and reasoning, the acquisition and domination of a specific language, the active participation are taken into consideration. For the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), in addition to excellent knowledge of the topics in the program, the student must demonstrate reasoning autonomy and full mastery of an appropriate language.
Lesson mode
The course take place with classroom lessons (lectures). Attending students may submit (optional) a brief written paper (5.000/10.000 characters included spaces) or to participate in a written exoneration on topics covered in the lessons (free option) on topics covered in class, which will be evaluated during the examination.
