The course provide a general introduction to Hispano-American literature from the early twentieth century to the present day, in its main themes and in some exemplary figures (Pablo Neruda, César Vallejo, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel García Márquez, Alejo Carpentier, Julio Cortázar, Juan Rulfo, Roberto Bolaño etc.), pointing out the strong links with the historical development of the continent, the linguistic transformations and the formation of an American conscience, with particular attention to the intercultural nature of the Hispano-American literature.

No prior knowledge is required for the attendance of the course.

For non-attending students, the syllabus does not change, except for the changes indicated in the basic bibliography, but students must contact the professor at least one month before the exam is due to take place in order to agree on the syllabus.

Exam in written form, includes open questions and short open questions, in relation to the topics presented in the program. In the event that the student does not consider the result achieved to be sufficient, he / she can supplement it with an oral test. In the event of failure to pass the test, students can repeat it in subsequent sessions. To pass the exam it is necessary to obtain a mark of not less than 18/30. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired sufficient knowledge of the global development of Hispano-American literature, a basic knowledge of the main authors and that he is able to situate authors and texts in their correct temporal development. To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and consistent way.
