HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Course objectives

This is an introductory survey course, meant to provide the students with an elementary knowledge of the main historical lines of XIX century art and of the critical and methodological issues concerning the art of the time. The student must acquire the necessary skills to evaluate the importance of the artistic heritage and the resources provided and the appropriate skills to enhance them as resources in the tourism sector and to communicate them with the appropriate professional strategies. It will also have to acquire independent judgment in the use of sources related to contemporary art in order to deepen the study and artistic teaching in the tourism sector.

Course program
This is an introductory survey course, meant to provide the students with an elementary knowledge of the main historical lines of the history of art from Neoclassicism to the avant-garde of the 60s and 70s of XX century and of the critical and methodological issues concerning the art of the time.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required
Books
Students should study the following book: Giulio Carlo Argan, L’arte moderna, Firenze, Sansoni, 1970 (o ed. successive).

Exam mode
The mastery of content and skills acquired, linguistic accuracy and lexical property, and the argumentative ability demonstrated by the candidate will be taken into account in the assessment of the exam.
