CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. The student acquires the theoretical principles and the methods of the new cultural geography, considered as a way of innovative knowledge production, which integrate, modify and develop the established procedures of the discipline, but also as a key for reading and interpreting the most important cultural, social, economic events and processes of our time at the different geographical scales.

Course program
Starting from the definition of tourism, sustainability, enhancement and territory, the course tackles the most current issues related to the basic issue by proposing case studies that become good practices for the enhancement of territories through sustainable tourism. From recent forms of sustainable enhancement such as ecomuseums to the most innovative tourist accommodation proposals, such as widespread hotels, offering an overview of successful practices and practices, the students have the opportunity to deal with traditional topics and innovative enhancement processes for a transversal and experiential geography and its impact on the territories (new forms of valorisation, processes of museumisation - urban regeneration - events / festivals - walkability and paths).
Prerequisites
The themes dealt with in the course of Sustainable Tourism and Valorisation of the Territory, while not providing for a prerequisite, presuppose a knowledge of the notions of cartography, the ability to read a topographical map and knowledge of the main themes and topics of physical geography and human geography.

Teaching mode
The lessons will be set according to the parameters of innovative and inclusive teaching, in order to develop approaches, methodologies and provide useful tools to increase the quality of learning processes. Lectures will be used with the use of geocartographic tools and devices for carrying out training tests and exercises in the classroom in order to promote a learning process that supports interaction with indispensable materials and work tools in the geographical area.
Frequency
Attendance at the courses, although not formally compulsory, is strongly recommended, as it is a fundamental training element for the acquisition of the skills set out in the educational objectives. On the other hand, also from a regulatory point of view, classroom attendance constitutes part of the commitment required to obtain training credits.
Exam mode
For attending students there is the possibility of taking a practical test with the creation of a project work
