PALEOANTHROPOLOGY AND BIOARCHAEOLOGY

Course objectives

Some of the key themes of paleoanthropological research will be developed, with the examination of the fossil documentation that leads from the first bipedal hominids to the Homo sapiens species, which will be accompanied by a discussion of some of the methods used in the biology of ancient human populations

Prerequisites
Having attended at least one course in bio-naturalistic anthropology, such as (in particular) the course included in the study plan of the three-year degree in Archaeological Sciences entitled: Anthropology and Natural History - 10612314.

Manzi G. - Il grande racconto dell'evoluzione umana (Il Mulino, Bologna 2018). Minozzi S., Canci A. - Archeologia dei resti umani: dallo scavo al laboratorio (Carocci, Roma 2015). These reference texts are complemented by other handbooks and supplementary readings that will be provided in class and via "classroom".
Frequency
Attendance at classes is recommended.
Exam mode
Evaluation of the knowledge and skills acquired, starting from the description of a fossil find and/or a human remains of bioarchaeological interest that will be submitted to the candidate.
Lesson mode
Traditional lectures, accompanied by slide presentations that will be regularly provided via "classroom" and laboratory examination of relevant specimens (in cast) shown in the classroom and discussed by the teacher.
