TOWN PLANNING IN THE ANCIENT WORLD I A
Course objectives
In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of Ancient Urban Planning, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. In particular, the course aims at providing students with notions about urban development process in historical cities, that is basic elements on: 1. the inspiring principles in colonial planning in distinct historical periods; 2. architectural components in urban framing; 3. technical processing work from the urban project to the accomplished plan, to now-a-days situation through the post-roman alterations. The course also analyses geopolitical context referring to particularly interesting archaeological environments (from Mediterranean basin to Central America).
