At the end of the Course the student should know the problems relating health care and safety of invidual and community, and to be able to apply strategies of preventive and occupational medicine.

Community Medicine Identification of the relationships between need, demand, and supply. Health and social care interventions for chronic-degenerative diseases, disabilities, and terminal illnesses. Identification of the demand and supply of services for the comprehensive protection of the health of families and communities. Development of unified and integrated care plans. Activation of the participation of individuals, families, and communities in health protection. Evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions in primary care: application of evidence-based medicine (EBM) guidelines. Evaluation of the outcomes and results of healthcare assistance. Identification of methodologies for hospital-community integration and for the rational use of the network of district services. Contribution of general practitioners and freely chosen pediatricians to prevention activities in the community. Occupational Medicine General concepts of Occupational Medicine: evolution, purposes, general principles, and objectives of Occupational Medicine. Workplace Health Promotion (WHP): bringing health promotion into the workplace. Principles of industrial toxicology and occupational hygiene. The approach to workers in health surveillance: occupational history. Relationship between work and health: accidents, occupational and work-related diseases. Relevant Italian and European regulations regarding workers' health and safety. Main diseases related to occupational exposure to physical, chemical, biological, and transversal agents. Risks and diseases typical of healthcare professions. Occupational carcinogenesis. Stress and burnout in the workplace. Women and occupational health. Current Issues Risk factors, epidemiology, and prevention of domestic, road, and workplace accidents. Public health aspects in natural disasters, industrial accidents, and bioterrorism.
