Course objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the basic knowledge for the analysis and understanding of the evolution of the international political system since the Paris Peace conference to the dissolution of URSS.

Course program
The transformation of the European international system after the First World War and the accession to power of Hitler; the question of German rearmament; the international crises; the origins of the Second World War; the European phase of the Second World War; the extra-European problems; the international relations during the second phase of the Second World War; the peace treaties; the origins of the Cold War; the German question; the Marshall plan and the origins of the Atlantic Alliance; the process of European integration; the decolonisation process; the Middle East and the origins of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; the transformation of the Soviet political system after Stalin; China in international relations during the Cold War; the diplomacy of “détente”; the crisis of the Soviet Union; the post-Cold War international system.
Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the history of the 20th century.

Exam mode
Multiple-choice test consisting of 30 questions, each with 5 possible answers, one of which is correct, to be completed in one hour. To pass the exam with the minimum grade (18/30), students must answer correctly to at least 17 questions.
