Course objectives

Students will be guided in the development of a landscape project aimed at creating new sustainable connections for Rome, starting from the in-depth study of some significant sections of the GRAB track, the Grande Raccordo Anulare delle Biciclette. Design studio aims at the following training objectives: Knowledge and understanding − Acquisition of a toolkit aimed to understand and interpret the relationship between contemporary lifestyles (demand for innovative collective services) and living spaces in the metropolitan city with particular reference to accessibility , sustainable mobility , healthier lifestyles, education to physical activities and well-being. Applying knowledge and understanding − ability to apply the tools for the development of a landscape project aimed at creating new sustainable connections for Rome. Making judgements − Ability to evaluate and organize data, assessments and proposals for landscape transformation and improvement using and technical language e and specific tools of the design discipline (graphic elaborations, technical reports, info-graphics, views, etc) Communications − field test of techniques and methods of representation, argumentation and communication of cognitive data and design choices aimed at dialectical and interdisciplinary comparison and dialogue with possible users, administrators, etc. . It is about imagining and communicating how space will be transformed by project actions, producing new landscapes. Lifelong learning skills − Acquisition of knowledge and tools to form a working method for the design of the landscape applicable to different contexts

Course program
The Course is divided into theoretical lessons and laboratory design activities. The theoretical lessons are divided into three sections: 1. key concepts: In this section, some significant themes and issues of the cultural debate on landscape and landscape design will be addressed, in their historical evolution and contemporary relevance. These concepts are useful for developing shared references for all students, in particular regarding: landscape design for sustainability (climate, biodiversity and inclusion); the urban ecosystem (ecological performance of urban green spaces); sustainable and inclusive accessibility. 2. tools: In this section, the basic tools necessary for the analysis and interpretation of landscapes, for understanding their functioning and for recognizing specificities and differences will be provided through a transdisciplinary approach capable of dealing with physical and social space. This section aims to allow each student to develop their own specific toolkit, essential for critical reading and landscape design, through lectures and specific exercises relating to: water; soil; vegetation; permeable spaces Students are provided with a detailed survey text, commented and described by the teacher as a reference for the investigation phases 3: design references: in this section, significant historical and contemporary projects will be discussed and analyzed The laboratory activities consist of collective and guided inspections in the study area; seminars aimed at understanding the problems and potential of the study area; collective and individual reviews of the students' work in progress. In particular, students are required to complete the following elaborations: PANEL 1: urban accessibility and socialization devices PANEL 2: water and soil Panel 3: vegetation and biodiversity Panel 4: concept and masterplan Panel 5: focus area The first three elaborations are carried out in groups of maximum 3 people The last two are individual Since the first lesson, specific contents and deadlines for the various elaborations required are defined
Prerequisites
The Landscape Design Course does not require any particular prerequisites, other than those required for admission to the Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, as contained in the Regulations

Exam mode
The intermediate learning tests consist of periodic and collective reviews of the project documents in progress. The final certificate of achievement will verify the ability of the students to check the topics covered in the course and to critically present the results of the investigations and evaluations relating to the area of ​​study, the coherence of the project proposals through graphic documents and any video presentations. The coherence of the elaborations with the objectives of the course is evaluated; the ability to argue the analysis and design choices; the clarity and effectiveness of the graphic restitution of investigations and design choices

The Course is divided into theoretical lessons and laboratory design activities. the theoretical lessons are held in the classroom with the help of video and power point presentations, and collective final discussion the laboratory activities include guided collective inspections in the study area and collective and individual revisions in the classroom
