THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELING

Course objectives

General objectives The general objective of the module, within the Landscape Planning and Infrastructure Studio, is to learn and test ecological principles and methodologies in the interdisciplinary framework of green infrastructures or "landscape infrastructures" planning. In particular, with respect to the overall strategic context of the landscape infrastructure, which addresses the overall aspects of sustainable development, the module deals with the environmental aspects, providing the basis for the interpretation and subsequent planning of the landscape as a complex ecological system. At different scales and for territorial contexts with different degrees of naturalness (urban / rural), the themes of the territorial ecological classification, of the assessment of the state of conservation and of the prioritization of the objectives of protection, management and planning of natural resources are then dealt with. Specific aims Knowledge and understanding of the structural, functional and dynamic aspects of the landscape, as a system of ecological systems, as well as of drivers, pressures, impacts and responses that affect the conditions and ecological value of landscapes Ability to apply knowledge and understanding for the collection, processing, analysis and interdisciplinary integration of ecological-landscape knowledge aimed at the definition of protocols, plans and projects for the assessment, enhancement and redevelopment of complex ecological systems Critical and judgmental skills developed through participation in seminar activities and in-depth analysis of scientific articles and examples of landscape planning at different scales selected by the teacher Ability to communicate what has been learned through collective activities of argumentation and discussion of the proposed scientific investigations and landscape plans Ability to continue the study autonomously throughout life through the knowledge of the basic theoretical models for ecological landscape analysis, for the assessment of conservation status and environmental quality at the landscape scale, as well as of the main institutional sources and scientific studies for the retrieval and the updating of basic data related to environmental and sustainable development conventions and strategies

Course program
In connection with the other two modules of the Laboratory (Landscape Planning and Landscape Design), this module is aimed at providing the basic knowledge related to the disciplinary principles of landscape ecology and to the political and strategic reference context for integrated landscape infrastructure projects at the international, national and local level. Didactic units (modules): a. theoretical bases and political-strategic context: basic concepts of landscape ecology and the ecosystem approach; policies and strategies for the conservation, enhancement and sustainable management of ecosystems and their services (6 hours); b. case studies: examples of integrated planning of landscape infrastructures that foresee measures of conservation, recovery and restoration of ecosystems and their services at different scales and in urban and / or rural contexts (4 hours); c. laboratory activities: application and verification of knowledge and design tools through the construction of a specific proposal for a study area, chosen in agreement with the other teachers of the laboratory (20 hours)
Prerequisites
Knowledge of GIS tools and techniques for the cartographic identification, representation and interpretation of landscape elements (essential)
