Course program
The course aims to explore in depth the communicative processes of science and medicine from both clinical and biological perspectives. It provides students with knowledge of the fundamentals of basic genetics, cancer genetics, gene transfer, and genetic correction systems (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9), as well as an understanding of aberrant processes underlying genetic diseases.
Embryonic, adult, and induced stem cells will be discussed in relation to specific genetic and acquired disorders, including cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, skeletal dysplasias, immunodeficiencies, progeria, and cancer. Preclinical data from animal models and clinical data from humans will also be examined, with a focus on science and medical communication in the media.
The course includes a practical component in science and medical communication, aimed at developing effective and critical communication skills for both basic and applied research.
