Course objectives

The course deals with special matters in Czech and Slovak literature: for example, literature concerning history, life writing, poetry as a mirror of the time, etc. (the specific program is never repeated). Short text in Czech and Slovak are commented during the lessons.

Course program
The course deals with special matters in Czech and Slovak literature. Modern and contemporary narrative, poetic and critical works are commented; reading, critical analysis and translation both of literary texts and the press are exercised.
Prerequisites
B1 level of Czech or Slovak; knowledge of the history of Czech and Slovak languages and literature from the Middle Age to the present.

Bohumil Hrabal, La cittadina dove il tempo si è fermato, Roma 1992 Marek Šindelka, La fatica dei materiali, 2022 Jan Wiendl, František Wiendl, Tempo confinato, Torino 2025 Further recommended texts will be available on moodle. Students not attending classes shall ask for a separate list of texts.
Teaching mode
The course takes place during the whole school year. It consist of lessons and seminars. Students participate in seminar with presentations and translations. The shall write a paper in order to exercise specific terminology and the rules critical writing.
Frequency

Exam mode
An oral exam (about 30 minutes) will be taken at the end of the classes. A paper of about 3 pages is requested at least 2 weeks before the date of the exam. Students not attending classes are invited to ask for a separate list of texts.
Lesson mode
Lessons take place during the Winter term.
