Introduction to Catalan language and literature: current position of Catalan Language within the Romance languages and in Contemporary countries (Spain, France, Italy); origins and developement; profile of history of Catalan countries, of literary and linguistic history.

Course program
Some of the most relevant texts of Catalan poetry, composed from the 13th to the 21st century, will be read in the Catalan language. Cultural linguistic bases will be provided to understand these poems in their historical context.
Prerequisites
Ability on critically read poetic texts. Basic knowledge on metrics and rhetoric.
Exam mode
A poem will be provided, among those read and commented on a lesson, and its translation and critical analysis will be requested.
