Course program
The course constitutes an advanced module and is reserved for students who have already completed at least one course in the History of the Italian Language or Italian Linguistics, and it will be held in the second semester. The course coincides with Module B of the Istituzioni di Storia della Lingua Italiana course (code 1023178) for Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation (MLI).
The course focuses on the language and style of contemporary Italian novels. During this module, the phonetic, morphological, syntactic, and lexical characteristics of contemporary Italian will be explored, and then examined and compared to literary Italian. The course also aims to provide more advanced skills for the linguistic and stylistic analysis of literary prose texts.
Prerequisites
The course is reserved for students who have already taken at least one exam in the History of the Italian Language or Italian Linguistics.
Books
The course is based on the following textbook and involves the reading of a novel of the student's choice (the full list will be provided later):
- P. D'Achille, L'italiano contemporaneo, Il Mulino, new edition 2025.
Frequency
Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended, since the course requires active participation in the discussions and in the linguistic and stylistic analysis of the novels we will study.
Exam mode
The course has a seminar-based format and involves reading a novel from a selection of choices, as well as collaborative work and discussion on its linguistic and stylistic analysis, both in class and independently.
Lesson mode
The course will be held on the second semester, on Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in Room 105 (Marco Polo) and Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in Room 102 (Marco Polo).
