ROMAN ANTIQUITIES AND INSTITUTIONS - ADVANCED COURSE I

Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of ANTIQUITY AND ROMAN INSTITUTIONS ADVANCED I, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. Competence on the basic tools for research in the field of latin epigraphy and Roman institutions and knowledge of the main fields of research with deepening of methodological skills.

Course program
Aspects of Roman public and private life. Men and Women in front of the death. Men and Women in front of the gods. The lessons, of a seminar type and with the formation of study groups, will be integrated with visits to the epigraphic collections of the Museo Nazionale Romano alle Terme di Diocleziano and the Antiquarium Comunale del Celio.
Prerequisites
Good knowledge of Latin launguage and Roman hostory

Frequency
Due to the seminar nature of the module, attendance is recommended. Non-attending students will base their preparation on the textbooks indicated only.
Exam mode
Oral exam on books and discussion of the written results of the epigraphic seminar; verification of the acquisition of expected learning oucomes. To pass the exam students must get a grade of not below than 18/30; students must demonstrate to have acquired a sufficient command of course topic. In order to achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, students must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all course topics, and to be able to connect them in a logical and consistent way.
