Degree programme choice orientation
SOrT (Servizio di Orientamento integrato Sapienza) is Sapienza University’s integrated guidance and orientation service. It operates both through a central office located on the main campus and through local help desks within the Faculties. At SOrT centres, students can access detailed information about specific Faculties and degree programmes, and receive support to help guide their academic choices. The central office and Faculty-appointed academic staff coordinate orientation and tutoring projects, and provide information on the educational offer as well as the administrative procedures for accessing courses.
Orientation Initiatives and Projects
1. “Porte Aperte alla Sapienza” (Open Days)
Held annually on the main campus, this is Sapienza’s largest orientation event, aimed primarily at prospective students. Over the course of three days, participants can meet with faculty members and current students, gather information, and attend presentations of the academic offer for all Faculties in the Aula Magna.
The event is open to all those interested in enrolling in Sapienza’s Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle, and Master’s degree programmes, with a particular focus on high school seniors. It also provides a valuable opportunity for all stakeholders to explore the university’s teaching and learning spaces, cultural venues, and student services (including libraries, study rooms, museums, student housing, sports facilities, and the university theatre).
Alongside academic presentations, both in-person and virtual Faculty stands provide information about general administrative procedures, enrolment steps, and entrance exam requirements.
To promote inclusion and accessibility, Sapienza’s Office for Relations with Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA) offers guidance and support services, including personalised academic plans and didactic, financial, and logistical resources for students in vulnerable conditions. The office also provides orientation regarding the clinical certifications needed to request support.
2. Sapienza Orientation Portal
To support students in choosing their degree programme, Sapienza has developed a dedicated online platform: https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html.
The portal offers an immersive preview of university life, with virtual tours of the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theatres, and recreational spaces. Students can also access online learning modules on key subjects covered in the degree programmes, assess and enhance their preparation for entrance tests, and stay updated on orientation events organised by Faculties and Departments.
The portal features video presentations of all Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle, and Master’s degree programmes, especially new ones, and is complemented by Sapienza’s social media channels to reach a wider student audience.
3. Self-assessment Tools (developed by Sapienza experts and scientifically validated)
- “Know Yourself”: supports students in making informed decisions about their academic path. After completion, students receive a personality profile, an academic profile, and a career profile.
- “Me, Myself and Others”: measures soft skills and interpersonal competencies relevant for personal development and the job market.
4. Orientation Events
A full calendar of orientation events — organised by the University, Faculties, Departments, and Study Programme Committees — is available at: https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362.
Support for Students with Disabilities and Learning Disorders (DSA)
Sapienza provides targeted orientation, assessment, and support during the admissions process for students with disabilities and/or specific learning disorders.
The Office for Students with Disabilities and DSA evaluates individual needs based on submitted documentation and defines personalised arrangements for entrance exams. For locally or nationally limited-enrolment degree programmes requiring a selective test, students with disabilities may request compensatory measures (e.g., dedicated rooms, extended time, reader or escort tutors, LIS interpreters, calculators), in accordance with the admission procedures detailed in each programme’s call for applications.
The office also supports incoming students with disabilities or DSA during enrolment and the transition to university life, with assistance from specialised tutors, peer tutors, and LIS interpreters.
The Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage in the Near and Middle East and in Africa is designed for students who wish to explore the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of some of the most historically and culturally rich regions of the world. Entirely taught in English, the programme offers a solid multidisciplinary foundation, combining historical, archaeological, linguistic, and anthropological approaches with practical tools for heritage research, preservation, and management at both local and international levels.
This programme is particularly suited to students with a deep interest in the history and cultures of the Near East, the Middle East, and Africa, who also seek to develop critical and methodological skills for careers in academia, museums, publishing, and cultural institutions. The course equips graduates to work in intercultural and international environments, promoting cross-disciplinary dialogue and engagement with the challenges of the contemporary world.
The Programme Chair and the teaching staff provide continuous support in choosing the educational path, both prior to enrolment and throughout the student's academic journey.
