PROBLEMS OF MEDIEVAL HISTORY

Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of Medieval History, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. In particular, the course aims at: analizing historical events by reading documents both published and unpublished; making students know the scholars’ bibliography and the changes of historical perspectives about the lessons’ subject; working out students’ critical ability towards history and its development; teaching the students how to compare different kinds of documents in order to take into consideration and to use the different points of view; understanding how to place a particular event inside the wider and more general historical frame.
