Course program
At the end of the course, the student should be able to: i. Recognize the main infectious syndromes and plan an appropriate clinical and therapeutic approach; ii. Understand the issue of antimicrobial resistance and the strategies to counteract it; iii. Acquire the methodological approach to the assessment of the main infectious syndromes and the fundamental principles of differential diagnosis. Detailed program: - Introduction to Infectious Diseases - Microbiological diagnosis of infections - Principles of antibiogram interpretation - Antimicrobial resistance - Pneumonia - Meningitis - Infective endocarditis - Head and neck infections - Fungal infections - Bone infections - Malaria - Leishmaniasis - HIV infection and AIDS - SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 - Tuberculosis - Exanthematous diseases - Infectious mononucleosis - Infectious diarrheas and Clostridioides difficile infection - Nosocomial infections - Skin and soft tissue infections - Septic syndrome - Brucella infection, typhoid fever, and rickettsioses - Fever in the returning traveler - Viral hepatitis - Arboviral infections - Urinary tract infections
Prerequisites
The student must have obtained exams in microbiology/virology/parasitology and laboratory medicine
