Course program
Theoretical introduction to Geographic Information Systems and map projection. Practical analysis of land use around randomly generated species record points downloaded from GBIF. This includes creating, editing, georeferencing shapefiles and calculating numerical values ​​in their attached DBFs. Management of basic functionalities for GIS project development and cartographic representation.
Prerequisites
No special requirements are needed, this is an introductory course to the potential of the software.

Exam mode
A report on the project carried out together in class will be requested and evaluated, but with the results obtained individually from the random generation of points to work on.

Two multidisciplinary practical sessions in the field, which cover geology, botany and zoology field session 1 - Lago di Albano Synantropic species, Specie sinantropiche, waterfowl, native and invasive species, apex predators field session 2 - Orbetello e Argentario Natura2000, birds congregation and internation standards for biodiversity conservation

Bibliographic material about the local fauna will be distributed for the areas where the field trips take place. Relevant bibliographic material will be made available to the students via a Google Drive folder before each field session.
Teaching mode
One field tro to Orbetello lagoon and Argentario mountain. One field trip to Colli Albani (Albano lake)

Attendance is mandatory in order to acquire the ECTs
Exam mode
Students' preparation will be evaluated during the field session via direct student-teacher interaction.
