International experiences
Sapienza offers numerous opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad: in Europe and outside Europe, for short stays or longer periods, theses abroad, and much more.
Study periods in European countries: Erasmus
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation between higher education institutions; it funds mobility for study purposes (SMS) in all disciplines and levels of study (including doctoral studies) and promotes the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area. The Erasmus+ program allows students to attend courses and pass exams, with full recognition in their academic curriculum, or to carry out research for the preparation of their bachelor's or doctoral thesis.

Internships in European countries: Erasmus+ traineeship
Erasmus+ training mobility allows students to undertake internships at companies, training centers, and research centers based in one of the participating countries. The program allows students to undertake full-time internships abroad, which are recognized as an integral part of the study program. The internship can also be carried out after graduation, provided that the selection takes place before the degree is obtained. The number of months of mobility is added to those of the Erasmus study periods, up to the maximum allowed by the program.

Study periods in non-EU countries: Overseas Program
Thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and its own contributions, Sapienza offers the opportunity each year to spend a period of study, to take exams or do thesis research, in one of the more than 200 non-EU institutions with which it has bilateral agreements. The Overseas mobility program provides a monthly contribution of €700 net per month for the first 5 months and €500 net from the 6th month onwards. The continuous stay abroad cannot be less than 90 days and can last for a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters. The grant can only be used once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza grants.

Study or research periods in non-EU countries: Erasmus+ KA171 international credit mobility program - ICM
The Erasmus+ ICM program, funded by the European Commission, allows students and teachers to spend a period of study/research for their thesis or teaching/training in non-EU countries and provides a scholarship and coverage of travel expenses. All activities undertaken abroad will be recognized upon return from mobility by the relevant Sapienza professors, as established in the Learning Agreement. Student mobility can have a minimum duration of 3 to 6 months (possibly extendable up to a maximum of 12 months, the last 6 months of which without a scholarship - Zero-EU Grant mode). The ICM scholarship also covers mobility for doctoral-level research for the same duration. Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator based on the distance between the city of the home university and the city of the host university.

***Activities of the CdS***
The CdS, in collaboration with the Faculty, has adopted a schedule of periodic meetings dedicated to welcoming and informing students and teachers about international mobility opportunities, in particular:
• Welcome Days: one meeting per semester, dedicated to the incoming student community.
• Erasmus Days: one meeting per semester, dedicated to outgoing mobility, both for students and teachers, taking advantage of the various opportunities offered by Erasmus+, Traineeships, Theses abroad, non-EU mobility, and ICM.
• Erasmus Infoday: one meeting per semester to promote and present the Erasmus+ call for applications.
With regard to the “International Courses” component, a support figure has been established for aspects related to enrollment and subsequent stages, which has simplified procedures for newly enrolled students.
A handbook for international mobility has been produced, which brings together the main points for incoming and outgoing mobility, providing information on teaching, research opportunities, and guidelines for enhancing mobility (https://smfn.web.uniroma1.it/it/vademecum-della-mobilita-internazionale-...).
The CdS, through the academic secretariat of the degree program, is in constant contact with the Faculty's internationalization office, which coordinates and supports all administrative activities and also acts as an interface with the central administration offices.
The service offers appointments, remote consultations every Monday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (meet.google.com/pxd-xfet-dpa), an email address erasmussmfn@uniroma1.it, and a dedicated web page https://web.uniroma1.it/fac_smfn/erasmus.
The Faculty has CAMs (International Mobility Academic Coordinators) and RAMs (International Mobility Academic Managers) in each department and a Faculty Administrative Contact. The CAMs coordinate and promote international mobility activities, while the RAMs are responsible for defining and approving the training activities to be carried out abroad (Learning Agreement).
Within the Department of Environmental Biology, there is an Academic Coordinator for International Mobility (RAM), Prof. Elisa Brasili, whom all students admitted to spend a period of study or internship under the Erasmus+ Program must contact. The RAM is involved in tutoring activities for the choice of locations (before the ERASMUS+ call for applications), compilation of the study plan, Learning Agreement (before departure), modification of the study plan, Change Form (during the stay abroad), and validation of the educational activities carried out abroad (after returning to Sapienza).
